To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and make them accessible to the largest possible audience, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has chosen ART for The World to produce a long-feature film composed by a series of short films directed by filmmakers and video artists to convey the timeless significance of human rights and their underlying values.

Cartooning for Peace

The power and the responsibility of political cartooning were illustrated by the Prophet Mohammad cartoon debacle and the controversial cartoon exhibition on the Holocaust in Iran.

Conceived by the French cartoonist Plantu, ‘Cartooning for Peace’ is an initiative born on October 16, 2006 at the UN Headquarters in New York. Twelve of the most renowned political cartoonists from all over the world participated in a two-day conference to help us ‘Unlearn intolerance’. The conference was accompanied by an exhibition.

A movement was born.

A Creative Effort to Remind...

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was ratified and signed by the member states of the United Nations n 1948. It has been translated into 369 languages. Despite the signing of this document 60 years ago this year, numerous countries continue to violate the tenets of the Declaration.
