Helene Flautre

Mrs. Flautre, a Member of the European Parliament for the French Green Party, is Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Human Rights, and also sits on the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Mrs. Flautre was a mathematics teacher between 1981 and 1992.  She joined the French Green Party in 1989. Between 1989 and 1992 she was a councilor at the city of Arras. In 2001 she was reelected to the post.


In 1999 Mrs. Flautre was elected MEP for the Green List headed by Daniel Cohn-Bendit. In 2004 she was elected as Chair of the Subcommittee on Human Rights of the European Parliament. She is also a member of the Foreign Affairs, Committee, the delegation for EU-Mashrek relations and the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly.

Mrs. Flautre has worked closely on issues such as Asylum and Immigrations policies within the European Union.  Outside of Parliament, Mrs. Flautre has sought other ways to support refugees and migrants. In 2006 she launched the newsletter Les Invisibles which aims to provide visibility for the stories and personal journeys of the worlds many refugees, and she has also recently supported the creation and launch of Clandestin, a theatre performance which seeks to interpret the living conditions of migrants.
