Jean-Paul Marthoz (Belgium) is a journalist, writer, teacher and human rights activist. He is a foreign affairs columnist for Le Soir (Brussels), an associate editor of Europe’s World and a contributor to various other media (Espace de libertés, Démocratie, Médias, etc.)
He is professor of International journalism at the Université catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve and of Ethics in journalism at IHECS (Institute of High Studies of Social Communications, Brussels).
He is the author and co-author of some 25 books (the latest La liberté sinon rien. Mes Amériques de Bastogne à Bagdad and Journalisme international) on global journalism, foreign affairs and human rights.
Jean-Paul Marthoz has been foreign editor of Le Soir, foreign policy adviser at the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions, editor in chief of DimancheMatin, director of the Media for democracy project at the International Federation of Journalists, European Press Director for Human Rights Watch (1996-2005), and Editorial director of the foreign affairs quarterly Enjeux internationaux.
He is the chair of the Groupe de recherche et d’information sur la paix et la sécurité (GRIP, Brussels) and a member of the advisory board of Human Rights Watch/Europe and Central Asia division.
