Mr. Jacek Saryusz-Wolski is a Polish diplomat, politician and MEP. He is currently the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament, as well as a member of the Delegation for relations with Russia.
Mr. Saryusz-Wolski completed his postgraduate studies at the Centre Européen Universitaire (Nancy) and his PhD in economics at the University of Lódz. He has held numerous academic positions throughout his career: Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute (Florence) ; visiting Professor and Researcher at the Universities of Lyon, Oxford and Paris, and Vice-Rector of the College of Europe, at Bruges and Natolin.
He was Chief Adviser to the Prime Minister on European Integration (1991-1999) and Minister for European Affairs (1999-2001).
He was elected MEP in June 2004 as a candidate of the Citizens Platform. The same year he was elected Vice-President of the European Parliament, a post he held until 2007. In 2006, Mr. Saryusz-Wolski became Vice-President of the European People's Party (EPP) for a three-year term.
He is a Member of the Board of Trustees for “Friends of Europe”, a Board Member of the Trans-European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA) and Vice-Chairman of Civic Platform.
Mr. Saryusz-Wolski has received numerous honours and awards, including the Order of the Légion d’Honneur, the Robert Shuman Prize, the Polonia Restituta and a nomination for the European of the Year Award, amongst others.
